The other completely bogus new cou...Dear Mr Mellie<br /><br />The other completely bogus new counties created in 1973 - Avon, Cleveland and Humberside - have all been abolished in their entirety, with their ceremonial functions dispersed: Avon to Somerset and Bristol, Cleveland to North Yorkshire and Durham, Humberside to Lincolnshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire. As one who is proud to have been born in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in the county of Northumberland, I would much prefer Tyne & Wear to be similarly consigned to short-lived history, and for Newcastle and North Tyneside to retake their rightful places in Northumberland.
